Working together for Frederic
Community group organizes

FREDERIC – The Frederic Community Resource Corporation had its public début during the Frederic Family Days weekend. The FCRC is the work of a group of residents who want to revitalize the village and community. Many of the organizers were visible wearing their bright blue shirts during the parade Sunday, June 22.
The FCRC is set up for the purpose of promoting, supporting and encouraging the partnership and alliance of efforts to build the Frederic community, according to its mission statement. It wants to be involved in building amenities in the village for people to enjoy, such as playgrounds, campgrounds and a community fitness center. And it wants to encourage business growth in Frederic.
First up in planned activities is a Coon Lake cleanup day Saturday, July 19. That ties in with the goal of making Frederic a destination area, a place people want to visit and move to.
Three of the organizers, Dave Chenal, Rick Heltemes and Phil Wilder, sat down with the Leader last Friday, June 20, and shared their vision for Frederic and for the FCRC. Chenal is the owner of the
Beaudry Company, a local business, and a Frederic schools parent. Heltemes came to Frederic where his wife, a Grimh, grew up, after being active in St. Croix Falls for years. Wilder is new to the area but brings a career of business consulting experience.
“There are many people in Frederic with vision,” Heltemes said. “Frederic has great potential. We have lots of resources around us, in our community. We need to bring our people together, to unite around things and work together.”
“We want to look at the future of Frederic,” Chenal said. “We want Frederic to be a place where our kids can come back to and stay. A place where they can build their businesses.”
“The FCRC is not a single project group,” Heltemes says. “We want to work on a number of issues. We are about community.”
Volunteers for the Coon Lake cleanup can call Heltemes at 651-278-4503. And everyone who wants to get involved or has questions can come to the next FCRC meeting at the Mud Hut in Frederic this Thursday, June 26, at 7 p.m.
