Webster woman faces embezzlement charges

WEBSTER - A 34-year-old Webster woman is facing two counts of theft in a business setting of more than $10,000, allegedly taking money from the coffers of two Burnett County churches.
Michelle Blake, according to police records, was a secretary/bookkeeper at St. John the Baptist Church in Webster and Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Crescent Lake near A and H, from October 2010 to September 2013.
Father Michael Tupa and a second Catholic church official approached the Webster Police Department on Oct. 28, 2013 to report the suspected embezzlement. The maximum penalty for each felony G count is a $25,000 fine and/or a 10-year prison sentence.
Later on Thursday morning,, Jan. 9, Blake appeared at a bond hearing. She was released from custody on a $10,000 signature bond and is to have no contact with church employees. An initial appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22.
