Rep. Severson issues statement on mining legislation

MADISON– State Representative Erik Severson (R-Osceola) issued the following statement in response to today’s introduction of mining legislation.

“One of our top legislative priorities coming into this session is to pass legislation that will allow for a streamlined iron ore mining permit process. This legislation will provide applicants with certainty in the process while maintaining our state’s environmental protections.

“This legislation will help the private sector create jobs in Northern Wisconsin, an area desperate for family supporting jobs. We need to make sure government is helping to grow jobs, rather than tying the hands of businesses through burdensome regulations and ambiguous timelines.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that we pass mining legislation that streamlines the process while still protecting our natural resources.”
