Hunters stumble upon large marijuana grow
BURNETT COUNTY - In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 8, law enforcement officers eradicated a large-scale marijuana grow located on public lands in the Town of Anderson after being alerted to its presence by hunters.
This area is located south of the Village of Grantsburg.
The grow site included an extensive water supply and irrigation system, as well as a campsite for the individuals that were tending the grow. Evaluation of the scene indicates that the grow site had been active for some time, but had been recently abandoned. No suspects were located at or near the scene yesterday.
A total of 3,282 marijuana plants were seized during Tuesday’s operation, and investigation continues as to the identity of the suspect(s).
The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin DNR in the investigation of this incident, removal of the marijuana plants, and processing of the scene for evidence.
