Man dies in Hwy. 8 collision
by Gary King
POLK COUNTY - The collision of a mini van and a semi trailer on Hwy. 8 at approximately 5:40 a.m. Wednesday (April 18) claimed the life of a rural Clayton man, according to Polk County Sheriff Peter Johnson.
Garrett V. Javner, 44, driver of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
A preliminary report states Javner was westbound on 8 about one-fourth mile east of the Amery Junction of Hwy. 46 when the van he was operating crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming semi trailer in the rear axle area. The truck was driven by Jacob Hoheisel, 32, of Avon, Minn. A third vehicle, a Toyota Camry driven by Marlene Long, 55, Turtle Lake, which was also westbound, then hit the debris from the initial crash.
Neither Hoheisel or Long were injured and both were the lone occupants of their respective vehicles.
It was the third road-related fatality in Polk County thus far in 2012. There were 8 fatalities in 2011.
