Animal neglect investigation under way in Polk County
POLK COUNTY - The Polk County Sheriff's Department is leading an investigation into the allegations of animal neglect involving a horse ranch in Milltown Township.
The Otter Creek Ranch, a local trail riding stable, consists of about 80 horses, as well as many other domestic animals. The health and physical condition of some of the horses is at the heart of the investigation as well as the ranch owners' ability to properly provide for the animals.
Although details of the investigation are not being released, Sheriff Pete Johnson confirms that four horses were found dead and two of the horses are receiving necropsies to assist investigators in determining cause of death. The ranch owner is cooperating with authorities.
Sheriff Johnson continues to consult with many local experts, including the Polk County District Attorney, the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Polk County Corporation Counsel, a local veterinarian, a humane society official and township and public health officials. - from Polk County Sheriff's Dept.
